Weardale meadows and woodlands - 15 February

posted 6 Feb 2015, 06:35 by Ashley Price-Sabate
Hello, walkers!
It's time to lace the boots up again and set out together.  This month we'll walk through woodlands and meadows in Weardale.  (The light is returning, but the days are still a wee bit short, so this one is nice and close to the Abbey.)  The ancient woodland at Slit Woods is an SSSI, and the guide book says there are a series of little waterfalls as you approach it.  We will also be walking through some of the remains of the valley's mining history.
It is a 6 1/2 mile circular walk of light to moderate difficulty (an ascent/gradient of 525 ft.)

We will meet at the car park beside the river in Westgate (which looks to be free) at 10:30.  A good place for a cuppa and bite afterward is the Chatterbox Cafe in St. John's Chapel.  Do come prepared for any weather eventuality.  Let me know if you'll be able to make it.  Any questions, ring me at 07534153553

In gassho,
Ashley
