Ullswater Boat Walk -- 17 August (and upcoming walks)

posted 1 Aug 2014, 06:44 by Ashley Price-Sabate
Hello and happy August, everyone!

Looking at the calendar, it suddenly dawns on me that there are not many more opportunities this year for potentially lovely weather Green Mountain walks -- as our last few have been.  With that in mind, I think that this month is the perfect time to reprise the Ullswater Boat Walk.  This time I suggest we park our cars in Glenridding and take the ferry to Howtown.  It is a 7 mile walk of moderate difficulty, and waiting for us at the end will be refreshment and rest in one of the fine inns or cafes in Patterdale.  The ferry from Glenridding departs at 11:15, so if we arrive by our usual time of 10:30 everyone should be safely on board in time.  (Contributions to monks' fares are very welcome.)

As promised, I'm looking ahead to the next couple of months' walks, as well.  The dates for the rest of the year are as follows:  21 September, 26 October, 16 November, and 21 December.  For September there may be a "special guest guide", but more on that as things shape up.  For October, we could do Allen Banks/Staward Gorge via Plankey Mill -- a lovely 6 mile Autumn ramble.  November and December?   ..... well, maybe I'm not prepared to think into Winter just yet, but am open to suggestions.

I look forward to seeing you soon.
In gassho,
Ashley
