(1)This is the classic high level, approach to Helvellyn from Ullswater and the summit can be attained along the famous Striding Edge or by the less demanding route up Swirral Edge and over Catstycam. The route then keeps high, taking in three further tops of Nerthermost Pike, High Crag and Dollywagon Pike -  ( or we could take a lower path, skirting the tops) before returning to Patterdale via Grisedale Tarn. It will be a long but rewarding walk over the third highest peak in the Lake District.
We will meet at Glenridding village car park at 10.15 , and aim to leave by 10.30 and walkers need to be prepared for a strenuous but exhilerating and rewarding walk. Good footwear(boots), warm clothing and waterproofs are essential, as well as your own refreshments.
This walk may be changed on the day if the weather conditions make it unwise to attempt Striding Edge.

(2)Walkers who do not wish to go as high as the summit of Helvellyn can take the steadily ascending path from Glenridding towards Red Tarn or Grisedale Tarn and meet up with the descending Helvellyn party there. This route gives wonderful views of St Sunday Crag on the one hand and the Helvelyn range on the other as well as the chance to follow part of the Coast To Coast path

Offers of lifts would be very welcome - please get in touch with me if you need or can offer a lift.
