Sunday 17 July : Cat Bells

Gill has suggested a beautiful route for the next Green Mountains walk - which can be easily adapted from short to long - low to high , depending on what people want to do on the day.

The Walk will start from Skelgill (Drive from Keswick on the A66 to Portinscale, pass through the village along the road signposted for Grange. After about two miles, at the junctions turn right signposted Skelgill. You will find a car park on the left.)  The spaces are limited and get filled quite early  - if there are difficulties on the day pleaseliase b mobile phone. The walk will leave the car park at 10.30 prompt unless we know someone is going to be late.

From Skelgill we will ascend the grassy slopes to Catbells.  This is not a difficult climb (1480’) and the views are wonderful.  After that, we can descend on an easy path to Manesty and return along the lakeside.  This could easily be combined with a boat trip on the steamer and a stroll around Keswick (although this will have a cost).

Keen walkers can continue along the ridge via Maiden Moor to High Spy.  From there it is possible to either descend down via Newlands valley or go on to ascend Dale Head and Hindscarth – the possibilities are endless!!

If anyone would like to come on this walk and can offer, or needs, a lift please contact Gill James via the googlegroup. If anyone is coming from the east and is able to call and collect any monks who are coming from Throssel that would be much appreciated I'm sure.

As always, walkers need to be prepared for bad weather and to bring stout boots. The paths are not difficult but are rough and stony in parts and may be wet.

I shall not be able to join this walk but I will be thinking of you - take lots of photos please!
Jenny
