24th March : TWO WALKS FROM DOCKRAY, ULLSWATER, LAKE DISTRICT

Dear Green Mountaineers, thank you to everyone who wrote to me in response to my questionaire, there were many good suggestions and I have tried to incorporate some into this year's calendar of walks. As you will see, we have dates for the whole year but I have only drafted out a programme until the Autumn, to leave room for changes if we want to make any.

I would also like to start walking on Mondays sometimes- and perhaps this could be a mixture of events, with walks. For instance, it would be good to go on a coastal walk in May when the sea birds are nesting - and maybe take a boat trip from Seahouses, or go to Holy Island when the events celebrating the return of the Lindisfarne Gospels are on. anyone who would like to go for a walk or visit a place of interest on a Monday should contact me and I will put it on the group website to see who else is interested.

Our first walks will be on March 24th  and I suggest that we meet in the car park at Rheged Centre, near Penrith. I am looking for ways to solve two problems, which are inherent in the way the group works. Firstly to minimise the number of cars we take to the beginnings of walks where, especially in the Lakes, space is often limited. The second problem is one for the regular "short walkers" to think about - how can we either minimise the difference between the two groups finishing times, or use that time best?

We need two people to lead these walks please and drivers to offer lifts. I may not be back from Scotland by the 24th - or, if  am back, I may be in no shape to walk anywhere

In gassho
